Degradation of a mechanically recycled polylactide/halloysite nanocomposite in an ethanolic food simulant

<p class="JARTEAbstract">This work aims to study the effect of immersion in a ethanolic food simulant mechanically recycled poly(lactic acid) (PLAR) and its nanocomposites reinforced with halloysite nanotubes (HNT). PLAR was obtained by subjecting PLA an accelerated ageing process, which includes photochemical, thermal hydrothermal steps, followed final demanding washing step. further 4 %wt. HNT improve properties films. The materials were melt compounded extrusion processed into films compression molding. resulting exposed D1 (50 %vol. ethanol solution) for 10 days at 40 °C. intrinsic viscosity, crystallization behavior, stability as well mechanical performance analyzed before after contact simulant. swelling, plasticizing hydrolyzing led important decrease viscosity all samples, along significant increase crystallinity. Thermal negatively affected molecular weight, while high crystallinity values resulted higher Vickers hardness simulant.</p>
